City of Tampa and Causeway one.network Launch Major Work Zone Safety Initiative

Tampa joins the Florida Department of Transportation, Hillsborough County and the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority in deploying the Causeway one.network Live Link platform, providing the region’s traffic managers with a single operational view of roadway disruptions. Live Link allows work crews to share work zone locations and lane closure information with the public, right from the work zone.

TAMPA, Florida, August 21, 2024 – Causeway one.network, a leading digital work zone and road management platform provider, today announced the city of Tampa has deployed Live Link, the company’s premiere work zone safety software, to reduce congestion and protect workers and the driving public. Live Link allows workers to update lane closure information through the major GPS providers, notifying the public directly from the job site. That information is traditionally generated from paper work permits and spreadsheets that are out of date almost as soon as they are written.

The software will provide Tampa’s traffic managers with a single operational view of work zones, and related incidents and events on the city’s public roads, increasing efficiency, reducing travel times and improving safety. Because other regional agencies are using the Causeway one.network platfrom, city traffic mangers will also be able expand their view into neighboring jurisdictions to anticipate out of town situations that could impact drivers in Tampa. Barry Matlack, one.network’s VP of North America says the initiative will bring a new level of accuracy to often flawed work zone information. “With nearly 400,000 residents and more than 26-million visitors per year, this project has major lifestyle implications for the entire community,” he said. “This project digitizes that entire process from beginning to end and arms traffic managers with real-time decision enhancing tools. It’s the difference between the free flow of traffic and congestion, and we’re excited to provide those traffic managers with the tools to be effective in their jobs.”

Florida is the first state to deploy the Live Link solution. The software was developed and vetted in the United Kingdom before being deployed by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) on all state roads in 2022. Since then, other “Sunshine State” agencies including the Central Florida Expressway Authority, the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority and Hillsborough County have added the Causeway one.network platform to their work zone safety tools. Using the intuitive Live Link mobile app solution, workers at a job site can update their location, specific lane closures and even whether a work zone is active. That information is transmitted directly to the major GPS mapping providers including Google, Waze and Apple Maps providing information to drivers in the format, location and time they need it.

Matlack believes Live Link will make a significant difference for work crews, residents and visitors in Tampa. “We are committed to making roadways safer and as efficient as possible,” he said. “Tampa is a progressive traffic management city, and working with people who share our goals and commitment is extremely rewarding.”
